  Variants and bundles

A **variant product** and a **bundle** are both main products that hold further articles below them: for variants these are **variants**, for bundles **bundle parts**. Values of the main product are inherited by the articles below it. You set the type when [creating](/en/help/docs/products/create-a-product) the product.

> A bundle groups related articles like a variant product. There is no assembly of components with fixed quantities.

Add a variant or part
---------------------

On the main product, open the **Variants** or **Bundle parts** tab and click **Add variant** or **Add part**. The new article inherits the values of the main product; you only fill in what differs, for example name, SKU, stock or price.

Link an existing article
------------------------

Use **Add existing article** to attach an existing product as a variant or part. Only articles with the same unit can be linked.

Detach a link
-------------

Use **Detach from main product** to release an article again. It becomes a standalone product and keeps the values it inherited so far. When detaching, you can copy the main product's images and documents.

The number of variants or parts per main product depends on your plan. A main product only appears in the catalog when it has at least one active article below it.
